DexterVPN for Android

Planned Android phone and tablet VPN app with modern protocols and account-based device management. Not yet publicly available.

System requirements

  • Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later recommended
  • Google Play or official APK distribution when launched (channel TBD)
  • DexterVPN account within the 10-device account limit

Planned setup flow

  1. Install the DexterVPN Android app from the official source at launch
  2. Sign in and accept the Android VPN connection request
  3. Choose automatic protocol selection or pick WireGuard, OpenVPN or IKEv2
  4. Connect and verify your IP change using a trusted external checker if needed

Supported protocols

WireGuard, OpenVPN (UDP/TCP), IKEv2 — on DexterVPN when launched on this platform.

Compare protocols on our VPN protocols guide.

Security considerations

  • Android displays a persistent VPN key icon while connected — this is expected
  • Avoid sideloading modified APK files
  • Use always-on VPN settings only if you understand battery and connectivity trade-offs

Troubleshooting preparation

  • If the VPN permission dialog was dismissed, reinstall or clear app data to re-prompt
  • Disable battery optimization for DexterVPN if the OS stops background VPN sessions
  • Switch server location if a specific endpoint is unreachable
