DexterVPN for macOS

Planned native macOS VPN app for Mac laptops and desktops. macOS 11 or later. Pre-launch — join early access for updates.

System requirements

  • macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later on Intel or Apple Silicon Macs
  • Permission to install a system extension or VPN configuration profile when prompted
  • Reliable internet connection

Planned setup flow

  1. Sign in to your DexterVPN account in the macOS app after launch
  2. Grant VPN configuration permissions when macOS prompts you
  3. Select your preferred protocol and server location
  4. Use the menu bar controls to connect and disconnect

Supported protocols

WireGuard, OpenVPN (UDP/TCP), IKEv2 — on DexterVPN when launched on this platform.

Compare protocols on our VPN protocols guide.

Security considerations

  • Download only from dextervpn.app — not from third-party Mac app directories during pre-launch
  • Enable the kill switch when available before using untrusted networks
  • macOS may require explicit approval in System Settings for VPN profiles

Troubleshooting preparation

  • If macOS blocks the VPN profile, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and allow the configuration
  • Restart the app after a macOS upgrade before troubleshooting connection issues
  • Try IKEv2 on restrictive networks where UDP-based protocols are filtered
